It was in 1977 that Star Wars was released and millions of movie-goers were dazzled with never before seen special effects. It was in 1977 that the punk rock scene was booming and churning out some of the best albums yet. It was in 1977 that Elvis Presly, King of Rock n' Roll passed away. It was in 1977 that Gary Brown was born.

Born into a poor Belgian farming family, Gary Brown was forced to make his name from absolutely nothing. He was illiterate until age 13 when a kindly merchant took him under his wing, teaching him to read and write and also some English. With the help of that merchant and a lot of luck, he was accepted into the Antwerpen Accademy for the Arts, where he studied music theory. He graduated early, at age 20 and moved to Brussels where he performed at many of the top clubs, winning the acclaim of local music critic Walter Van Cortenberg. Van Cortenberg mannaged to get Brown a record deal with Vogelhas Records, a label based out of Amsterdam.

He refined his musical images and completed his first album "L'Homme Muppet" which was never released due to a conflict with the producer and the subsequent termination of his contract with Vogelhas. It was not a very good album, comprising over 20 tracks, all in French and all with mediocre dance beats synthesized with a Commador 64 program. Essentially, he had not yet begun to rock.

Soon after this turn, he was made aware of some extremely influencial new wave/punk bands such as Wire, the Damned, and the Vibrators. For months afterward, he played nothing but covers of ACDC played in the style of the afore mentioned bands, leaving his fans to ask, "What is he doing?"

The answer came suddenly one Saturday night when he was shceduled to open up for The Philosophy, a regional pop punk band who always packed the house. When Brown took the stage, the audience fell silent. His former meek art-school look had been replaced by a slick hard-rockin' exterior. His midi-sequencers had likewise been replaced by live human musicians, each as hard rockin' as Brown himself. Even more shocking, he had a whole set of power pop anthems that no one had ever heard. His pointed wit shocked and rocked the crowd. He blew the Philosophy right off the stage. A POMP official happened to catch that show, and the rest is history.

Gary is also an active member of Poison Ed, The Moops, The Dublin Brothers, The Happy Captains and Blood Agent 208.
